They are thrilled to announce their guest speaker, Olympic and World Champion 400m runner, Derek Redmond. Pipped to win gold in the 1992 Olympics, Derek tore his hamstring 250m from the finish line in the semi-final but finished the race limping with assistance from his father. Despite being disqualified, his heroic struggle became the stuff of legends, having been included in Barack Obama’s inaugural State of Union speech for overcoming adversity and resilience. Derek also became the subject of the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Celebrate Humanity’ videos which proclaimed “Strength is measured in pounds. Speed is measured in seconds. Courage? You can’t measure courage.”
