Dragons Den and the impact on creating an online business
Thursday 23 Jun 2011
Carol Savage founder of MyDish a recipe sharing website will talk about the journey in starting an online business, raising cash and pitching on Dragons Den. She will talk about what really happens in the Den, the impact of Dragons Den and key learnings in setting up her online business.
Carole came up with the idea for MyDish when her husband came back from South Africa after his mother had passed away. He brought back two scraps of paper with recipes on, one for Banana Bread and another for Lemon Meringue Pie. For my husband, the recipes were so much more than a list of ingredients, they were memories. They reminded him of being a little boy. I told this story to lots of people and everyone had a similar story.
She recently sold a business and was looking for a new challenge so she hit upon the idea of MyDish, the internet seemed like the perfect place to share and store everyone's treasured recipes.
Carol said that being on Dragon's Den was the scariest thing I've ever done.
Deborah Meaden announces that she wants to make Carol an offer; all of the money for 15% of the business. Theo is also impressed by Carol's potential and offers an additional £100,000 in return for another 15% slice of her business.
Carol reflects on this surprising turn of events, but not for long. In fairness to her other investors she would be unable to part with so much equity so opts to go with Deborah's offer and the deal is done.
