News for 9th June 2011 :: Neutralising Presentation Fears

The disappointing part of giving such a presentation is that the audience feels uncomfortable whilst listening.  They pick up on the nerves and maybe even worry for us.  That means they’re not listening to our content.  Put another way, we’re not guiding our listeners towards growth or a sale.  Isn’t that a lost opportunity?

The majority of presentation skills methods emphasise how to cope through the ordeal, e.g. breathing or meditation.  Coping has nothing to do with enjoying.

What if you could permanently neutralise the physical symptoms to do with presenting?  And what if you could learn to relish the opportunity to speak to colleagues and clients?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a mindfulness technique that involves tapping on key points along the nervous system whilst focusing on the problem.  It quickly releases the fears people experience in public speaking.  Within minutes it calms down the body’s adrenaline response.  As a result, symptoms like sweating palms, stuttering, and shaking limbs disappear.  It also allows for the person to have a more focused mind – a great asset when addressing an audience.  With that mindset you’re able to respond to your audience and inspire them.

What happened to the woman who wanted to walk into the presentation with her own O2 tank?  After two sessions, Alison Page, collapsed her dizzying fears.  In her own words:

‘I am still astonished that it only took 2 sessions with Sejual for her to ‘cure’ me of my fears. As a result I have been able to seek out further opportunities for presentations and talks and find I thoroughly enjoy the experience, and I believe its helped with my overall self-confidence too. I have no hesitation in recommending Sejual and EFT and would actively encourage anyone to go and see her who suffers from any similar fears.’
