News for 27th January 2011 :: Watford businesses benefit from commuter scheme

“Watford Commuter”, an innovative scheme to reduce the level of traffic in the town and minimise carbon emissions, has provided additional benefits to local employers. Reducing costs of transport and parking provision, and providing better access for staff and visitors are just some of the benefits resulting from the programme.

Measures available through the project include a free bike loan scheme, car-sharing programme and assistance with cycling facilities as well as advice and information on public transport, and sustainable travel options.

Doug Brodie, Watford Commuter Project Manager said: “We want businesses to support and participate in the programme as the benefits can be substantial. Ultimately, it will make Watford a better place for business, for transport choice and for living in”.

Businesses and organisations who have benefited from the free service offered by Watford Commuter include Clydesdale Bank, Watford Community Housing Trust and Corona Energy who have obtained bicycles for their staff to try out commuting by bike, and also The Park Inn and WENTA, who have received cycle racks. In addition, JD Wetherspoon has been given advice and assistance with their staff travel survey to identify travel trends and solutions.

The “Watford Commuter” scheme is sponsored by Watford Chamber of Commerce as part of a government Performance Reward Grant programme.
