News for 23rd December 2010 :: Watford FC and John Lewis join commuter scheme

Watford Commuter is an innovative project that aims to reduce the level of traffic, minimise carbon emissions and create better travel choices for workers in the town.

Measures available through the programme include an online car-sharing scheme, advice and information on public transport, a free bike loan scheme, journey planning and assistance with cycling facilities.

Doug Brodie, Watford Commuter Project Manager said: “Watford Commuter is an environmental business strategy which helps people who work in Watford to adopt more sustainable travel and transport practices.

The scheme can help businesses reduce the costs of transport and parking. It can improve staff health, lower absenteeism and provide better access for staff, customers and visitors.”

Businesses and organisations who have benefited from Watford Commuter include Watford Community Housing Trust, Clydesdale Bank and Corona Energy who have all obtained bicycles for their staff to try out commuting by bike, and The Park Inn, which has been provided with cycle parking facilities. JD Wetherspoon has been given advice and assistance with their staff travel survey and car parking management.
